In case you haven?t been following the Windows RT jailbreak saga, a few days back we learned of the discovery of a jailbreak for Microsoft?s tablet operating system that allowed for the installation of non-Microsoft-signed desktop apps. At the time, the procedure to perform the exploit sounded a bit complicated, requiring a computer-based debugger. Then Microsoft responded, praising the ingenuity of the attack, but sort of implying that it would be closing up the hole at some point. If you?d like to give it a try before Microsoft follows-through with that, there?s now an easy-to-use tool that can quickly jailbreak your tablet, straight from the device.
To get started, grab the needed files through the XDA source link, and transfer them over to your Windows RT device. Then it?s just a matter of running the exploit batch file, hitting your tablet?s volume-down button once, and waiting for the exploit to do its thing. Like before, this jailbreak won?t persist across reboots, but with something this easy, you can just run it again after you power cycle.
There?s a separate thread over at XDA keeping track of some useful apps that you?ll now be able to run on a jailbroken device.
