While 2010's Tron: Legacy didn't get a lot of love from the critics, the movie made enough at the global box office (just over $400 million) to warrant a sequel; in the end, it was the people who bought tickets to the movie that mattered the most after all.
Disney hired David DiGilio to work on the screenplay in June 2011, but not much was heard of the sequel until now. The turmoil at Disney Studio and the subsequent change in leadership at the top may have contributed to the delay.
The good new is that the sequel, aka Tron 3, is still alive at Disney, but the script is in need of more work.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is looking to bring on Jesse Wigutow to work on the revisions. The two parties are currently in talks.
Tron: Legacy starred Jeff Bridges, Garret Hedlund, and Olivia Wilde. It's unknown at this point what the third movie is about or if those three will return for the sequel.
Joseph Kosinski, who directed Tron: Legacy, is currently attached to direct. Kosinski's next movie, the Tom Cruise-starrer Oblivion, is scheduled to come out on April 19, 2013.
