JetBlue fined $90K for alleged delay mishap

JetBlue Airways Corp. has been fined $90,000 by the Department of Transportation for allegedly not informing passengers on A flight delayed at New York's JFK Airport that they could get off the plane while it sat at the gate.

A provision in the Department's airline consumer protection rules states that airlines must tell passengers when they have an opportunity to get off the plane while it's waiting to depart. Announcements must come 30 minutes after the scheduled departure time and every half-hour after that.

DOT claims the alleged violation occurred on JetBlue flight 645 from New York to San Francisco. The plane was set to leave New York at 7:30. Boarding started a little after 7 p.m., but the plane's doors didn't close for departure until almost 10.
